CUPE is proud to announce that the Association des résidences du Québec (ARQ) is encouraging intermediate and family-type resources (IR-FTR) on the island of Montreal to sign on as members of CUPE during the current raiding period.
In the wake of Bill 15, the IR-FTRs are the first components of the Quebec health and social services system to experience a union allegiance campaign, following the creation of the new single employer, Santé Québec.
Linda Adjei, President of ARQ, issued the recommendation to join CUPE, the largest union in Canada and the largest union affiliated with the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ).
Pierre Brisebois, Vice-President of CUPE local 4997, welcomes this move by ARQ. « The values and orientations of our two union organizations are very similar, and together we will defend the interests of IR-FTRs with even greater strength, » he said.
With more than 141,000 members in Quebec, CUPE represents over 30,000 members in Quebec’s health and social services sector. CUPE is also active in the following Quebec sectors: communications, education, universities, energy, municipalities, government corporations and public agencies, air and land transport, the mixed sector, maritime transport, and the fire sector. It is the largest affiliate of the FTQ.
